Real Kashmir FC documentary gets nominated for BAFTA awards

The story of Real Kashmir FC, from its inception to getting promoted for the coveted I-League, it's been the dawn of a new chapter that has re-written the history of Indian football. And now, as a cherry on top of an icing, a BBC documentary on Real Kashmir has earned two nominations in the British Academy Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) or BAFTA Film Awards Scotland.

The documentary has been nominated in two categories - 'Director-Factual' and 'Single Documentary'. The story revolves around former Aberdeen and Rangers legend David Robertson's journey and how he mentored aspiring footballers in war-torn Indian region of Kashmir and propelled them to the epitome of success.

Director Greg Clark got a nod in the "Director-Factual' category while the show will battle it out in the 'Single Documentary' category.

Earlier in June, in an interview with BBC Scotland, Robertson, who has been an integral cog of the Real Kashmir FC setup since his arrival had said that he would hate to turn his back on the club.

"I'm the only coach they've ever had, and I think I'd find it very difficult to see someone else coach the team - it's an emotional attachment to the whole thing, the whole adventure.

"We have had a lot of challenges to overcome, and I'm proud of what the club has achieved. I would hate to turn my back on them."

Real Kashmir FC became the champions of the I-League second division in the 2017-18 season to earn their promotion to the country's premier football league. Despite the worsening unrest the region has faced due to the government's move to revoke special status of Jammu and Kashmir last month, Real Kashmir has still witnessed an average attendance of 25,000 for their home matches at the TRC ground.
