India's performance in weightlifting is leaving fans open-mouthed. It started with Gururaja on day one and by now India have won her fourth medal. Debutant Deepak Lather secures Bronze in the Men's 69 kg weightlifting event at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. As of now, all the four medals won by India have been earned by Weightlifters. The Athlete from Haryana showed composure in his lifts recording a total of 295 kg, with 136 kg in the snatch while he added another 159 kg in the clean and jerk to end up third in the event. He made an attempt to lift 138 kg in snatch and 162 kg in clean and jerk, but it was a failed attempt. Had he lifted those successfully, he could have had a chance to win the Gold. Gareth Evans of Wales won the Gold medal with a total lift of 299 kg- 136 kg in snatch while 163 kg in the clean and jerk. Sri-Lanka's Indika C. DISSANAYAKE MUDIYANSELAGE was marginally ahead of Lather who recorded a total of 297 kg- 137 kg in snatch and 160 kg in clean and jerk. In 2015, he won a Gold medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games. It was also during the same year that he became the youngest Indian to compete in the World Championships. Last year, he won three medals at the Commonwealth Games Championships including a Gold in the Men's 69 kg category and also a Bronze in the senior men's section with a total of 295 kg (137kg and 157 kg), which he repeated in the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. It seems that Weightlifting is India's forte in the on-going Games, with several other weightlifting events left in the mega event, it is likely that India will a few more!
