P V Sindhu wins silver medal at Indonesia Open 2019

India's ace shuttler P V Sindhu finishes with a silver medal at the Indonesia Open 2019 after being defeated by Japan's Akane Yamaguchi 15-21, 16-21  in the title clash. The shuttler who turned 24 this month, entered the first Indonesia Open final of her career and also the first final of this season at the $1,250,000 event. The first game entailed a tough fight with both players going neck-to-neck till 8-8. Sindhu edged past her opponent gaining four straight points to 12-8. A series of errors caused Sindhu to lose her lead to 14-15. Yamaguchi went on to build on her lead with her powerful smashes to 18-14 and eventually bagging the first game. Sindhu came back from a 4-1 deficit in the second game and regained her composure gaining three consecutive points. A 42-shot rally took the game in favour of Yamaguchi to 9-6 and later to 12-8. However, errors kept on faltering Sindhu's play, which gave away Yamaguchi a five-point lead of 15-10. Time and again Sindhu's costed her points and Yamaguchi kept on returning Sindhu's most fiery shots across the net. Sindhu tried come back after the scoreline of 19-16. But Yamaguchi's well composure continued to earn her the championship. World no. 5 Sindhu had shown a prolific streak in the tournament defeating the top shuttlers. In the

quarterfinals, she took on the third-seeded Japanese Nozomi Okuhara and won the proceeding in straight games 21-14, 21-7. While in semifinals, she beat the second-seeded and World No. 3 China's Chen Yufei 21-19, 21-10. Sindhu, who had an average season throughout the year, broke the duck in Singapore showing dominance which took her to the final. She will now be heading to Tokyo, alongside other top Indian players to play the Super 750 Japan Open from July 23. It will be followed by the Super 500 Thailand Open starting from July 30.
