USA request India to send Mallakhamb equipment

In a recent development, an Indian Embassy in the United States of America (USA) has requested the Indian Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) to provide them with equipment for the indigenous Indian sport of Mallakhamb. The official Twitter handle of Sports Authority (SAI) of India announced the same.

"Indian #IndigenousGames are gaining popularity all over the globe. @YASMinitry has been approached by @IndianEmbassyUs for Mallakhamb equipments, which is being sent to the US at Govt. cost. Indeed, our traditional games are taking global centrestage. #localforglobal #mallakhamb," tweeted the SAI.

According to the tweet, Mallakhamb is being promoted in the USA by local Indian communities. These Mallakhamb enthusiasts have even set up the Mallakhamb Federation of USA to popularise the sport in America.

The total equipment requested by the Mallakhamb Federation of USA includes six pole Mallakhambs with free stands, two rope Mallakhamb structures, one hanging pole and one bottle pole. According to the SAI, the Government of India will bear all the costs related to the shipping of equipment to the USA.

This request from the Indian embassy in the USA comes at a time when the Indian government is working full throttle to popularise the indigenous sports in the country and across the world. In their bid to promote indigenous sports in the country, the MYAS had given the green signal for the inclusion of Mallakhamb, Kalaripayattu, and Thang-Ta in the Khelo India Games 2021.
