The new season has thrown up a few surprises to say the least. As it stands at the time of writing, in the Premier League Southampton sit top of the pile, while Real Sociedad lead La Liga, and Sassuolo are second in Serie A.

Of course, there’s a long way to go and order could well be restored by May next year. But which teams have had solid starts to the season and should be ones to watch as they chase domestic glory?

Tottenham Hotspur

Liverpool are likely to restore their lead at the top of the Premier League by the time this article is published, but one team who are well worth keeping their eye on is Tottenham. Jose Mourinho’s men have already beaten Manchester United and Chelsea this season and are certainly the dark horses in the competition. Both Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are almost unplayable at the moment and if there’s one thing the Portuguese does know, it’s how to win a trophy.

They are third favourites with the bookmakers at present, behind Liverpool and Manchester City, and the top four does look incredibly likely. They are two points behind Jurgen Klopp’s side at the moment, but there is a realistic chance they could ride the coattails of them all the way to the end of the season. And then it’s anyone’s game.

AC Milan

Juventus have won Serie A for the last nine seasons, but the applecart could be upset this year with both Milan sides having a good chance. AC have started the better, and they look incredibly dangerous with Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the line. He’s the league’s top scorer despite having had to self isolate due to coronavirus for a period. They’ve yet to lose a game and are four points ahead of Juve, having only dropped points against Roma in a thrilling 3-3 draw. They’re also among the favourites for the Europa League and it could be a season we start to see Milan begin to return to the powerhouse they once were.

Tip: Free Bets On European Football Clubs

If you are a football fan, then you can spice the action with free bets when you join a sports book online. When it comes to placing a bet on the Premier League winner few are likely to look beyond Liverpool or Manchester City. However, many of the sports books offer free bets so you can take a shot at an outsider winning the Premiership or Italia Serie A.

Leicester City surprised the world back in 2016 some online bookmakers offered odds up to 5000-to-1 while there were still quite a few people that got in on the bet when the odds were 2000-to-1. Online bookies are the perfect place to get a free bet and try your luck with a team like Leister who are admittedly somewhere in the running this year.

Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad have had a fantastic start to the season in La Liga and are currently top of the pile having won five of their opening eight games.

They’ve signed well in David Silva, who has made a real difference for them, and while the title is perhaps beyond them, breaking into that top four is a real possibility, particularly if Mikel Oyarzabal can continue his fine form in front of goal.

Dortmund

Catching Bayern isn’t going to be an easy task this year. They’ve started at apace and are averaging four goals a game in the Bundesliga. However, Dortmund are matching them every step of the way currently and at the time of writing are level on points with the two sides set to meet this weekend. In Erling Haaland they have one of Europe’s top strikers, while Jadon Sancho, Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard have also proven solid players.

They are certainly a team that are on the up, and will certainly be closer than the 13 points behind Bayern they finished last season.
