One man's inter city cycling journey on Republic Day

Passion makes people push the limits of their own endurance. So, if the FIFA World Cup saw a diehard fan of Lionel Messi from Kerala travel on a cycle from Dubai to Russia just to meet his idol. Back home in India, similar passion drove cyclist Mayur Dumasia to an inter-city cycling odeysseyjust in time for the Republic Day. He completed the 16-city expedition across five states from the India Gate in Delhi to the Gateway of India in Bombay arriving at his destination on the eve of January 26. Dumasia lost his right hand in a train accident when he was 14. Dealing with the sudden onset of disability proved to be difficult for him as per a report by NewzHook which mentions that he even contemplated suicide in the aftermath of the accident. The 1600-km journey was undertaken by him to raise awareness and disprove most of the stereotypes that people with disabilities face on a daily basis. Awareness of other social issues like gender equality, road safety, environment protection and sanitation were also on the agenda because he reportedly feels strongly for them. "The expedition went off successfully and on schedule and I want to thank Ample Missiion for supported me in this initiative. I am feeling satisfied and fulfilled because this is something, I thought of just four months ago. I have been consistently working hard for this expedition and it has paid off," Mayur was quoted as saying by NewzHook. Dubbed MissionsOnTheMove, Mayur also stopped along the way to interact with school children in the villages he passed to pass on perspective he gained throughout his journey. The effort undertaken was brought alive on his social media page which also included snippets of his interactions with the students in question and his overall journey. His vision was supported by a foundation named Ample Mission, run by Dr. Aneel Murarka who was quoted as saying. "“Mayur has succeeded in his mission to highlight multiple social causes on his first cycling expedition from Delhi to Mumbai, which is an inspiring journey if over 1,600 kilometres. I salute his determination and belief in his abilities”. A first of its kind story sees a man employ cycling to achieve his vision. This truly is an exemplary tale of courage and fortitude.
