As per reports in various media portals, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked the Indian Premier League (IPL) sponsors to pay more to be associated with the Women’s T20 Challenge.

In a letter to the all the IPL sponsors including the title sponsor Dream11 and associate sponsors Paytm, Cred, Tata Altroz, Unacademy and Ceat, the BCCI has suggested that the Women’s T20 Challenge is a completely different event from the IPL and that they would have to pay more in order to be associated with the mini tournament for women. The sponsors have also been given the liberty to pull out as sponsors for the women’s event if they wish so.

“We have been given to understand that it is different from IPL and any association with the women’s event will cost extra,” said an IPL sponsor to Mumbai Mirror.

It remains unclear if the same has been told to the broadcasters, Star Sports and Hotstar.

The Women’s T20 challenge will be held alongside the IPL playoffs from November 4th to November 9th at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The mini tournament will see a total of four games with all three teams playing two match each and the top two teams qualifying for the final.
