Hockey India has issued a 33-member probable list for the senior men’s national coaching camp, scheduled to begin from September 2 at the Sports Authority of India in Bengaluru to do the spadework before the Belgium Tour and the Olympic qualifying events. The three-week spell of the coaching camp will be conducted under the supervision of Indian men’s national field hockey team coach Graham Reid.

The camp will be a big boost to the Indian men’s hockey team and their performance on the field, especially ahead of the Olympic qualifiers. “We have built some good momentum over the last few months. The athletes will come to this camp keen and ready to improve on all aspects of team performance. Creating more quality opportunities, improving our defensive capabilities and working together to make each other better are the key aspects of this camp,” said Graham in a statement to PTI.

The campers will look forward to focussing on improvement and consistency, following India’s recent scintillating victory over New Zealand in the Olympic Test event final. The Indian national coach further added that the Belgium tour in the month of September will prove a great platform for the team to lay the groundwork for the FIH Olympic qualifiers.

“At the end of September, we will travel to Europe to play and train with some of the best competition in the world. We need to be prepared for that, which will provide a great platform for the qualifiers in October/November.”

Goalkeepers include P R Sreejesh, Suraj Karkera, and Krishan Bahadur Pathak, while defenders Harmanpreet Singh, Birendra Lakra, Surender Kumar, Amit Rohidas, Varun Kumar, Rupinder Pal Singh, Gurinder Singh, Kothajit Singh Khadangbam, Nilam Sanjeep Xess, Jarmanpreet Singh and Dispan Tirkey have been added to the list. The list also includes midfielders as Manpreet Singh, Sumit, Nilakanta Sharma, Jaskaran Singh, Hardik Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Ashish Kumar Topno, Sayyad Niyaz Rahim and Raj Kumar Pal and forwards as Mandeep Singh, Akashdeep Singh, Shilanand Lakra, Gursahibjit Singh, Simranjeet Singh, SV Sunil, Gurjant Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Shamsher Singh and Lalit Kumar Upadhyay.
