On 2nd March 2018, for the first time in history, an Indian stood on the gold medal spot on the podium at the Asian Championship in Women’s Wrestling.
Navjot Kaur’s years of struggle paid off as she defeated her opponent 9-1 to lay her hands on her first ever Asian Championship gold medal.
Following her sister’s footsteps, Navjot took to wrestling. With a gold medal in her bag, Navjot’s family’s sacrifices all seem worth it.What’s more, she has even been granted a position in the Punjab Police as the DSP.
As luck would have it, despite being in terrific form, Navjot lost out on having a shot at another gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018, for which she didn’t qualify.
We know that this is nothing but a small hurdle at the beginning of a wonderful journey that has only just begun. Navjot Kaur has made India proud and will most certainly continue to do so in the many years to come.
