Football fans in India are anticipating a friendly match between Premier League (PL) giants Manchester United and East Bengal at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. But, it seems like the fans might have to wait a little longer before the official confirmation comes along.

The Manchester United officials have said that nothing has been confirmed as yet while East Bengal had earlier said that it is about managing financial side of the PL.

Speaking to IANS, the Manchester United corporate communications manager Greig Mailer said that nothing has been confirmed as of now with regards to tour destinations.

But sources claim that officials have said that the talks about the match are in its final stages. The match could be confirmed by the end of this month.

There are many things in the contract that we negotiated. We had a detailed discussion with Manchester United yesterday and we put forward our points. They will now get back to us by February 28 probably. We will formalities by then,” the source said told IANS.

If East Bengal does play against the Red Devils they would be without their current sponsors Quess Corp. They are looking for a new sponsor at this crucial time. Current season has been disappointing one for East Bengal as they linger at 10th spot in the I-league having suffered five defeats and two draws from 10 matches.
