The Indian Junior Boys Table Tennis team bagged the Silver medal at the 2018 Asian Junior & Cadet Championships. The Championships were being held in Myanmar, where a group of  Manush Shah, Manav Thakkar, Jeet Chandra & Snehit Survajjula finished in second place. The young Indian boys reached the final of the Championships by beating Iran in the semifinal. They had also beaten Chinese Taipei in the quarter-final. Manav Thakkar was the star for the Indian team in the latter stages of the competition. The Indian paddler first shone throughout the quarterfinal match against Chinese Taipei, beating both Li Hsin-Yang and Feng Yi-Hsin. Thakkar beat both of them over the course of five games each. Aptly supported by his teammates Manush Shah, Jeet Chandra, and Snehit Survajjula, Thakkar delivered similar performance in the semi-final. Against Iran, the rising Indian paddler defeated Amirreza Abbasi and Amin Ahmadian. This time, it took Thakkar only three games each to get the better of his opponents. The final of the 2018 Asian Junior & Cadet Championships was played yesterday, August 15. The Indian boys' team faced the China boys team. This time, however, Thakkar and Co. couldn't get the better of their opponents and had to settle for a Silver medal. In the final of the junior boys' team, Xu Yingbin gave China the perfect start by beating Jeet Chandra (10-12, 11-7, 11-9, 11-5).  Xiang Peng accounted for India's ace-in-the-pack Manav Vikash Thakkar (11-8, 8-11, 11-5, 11-8) to increase China's lead. Finally, Yu Heyi overcame Snehit Suravajjula (11-7, 11-3, 11-7) to end matters. There was a silver lining for the Indian Boys' team as they booked their places for the World Junior Championships. The Championships will be held in Bendigo, Australia from December 2 to December 9. Nevertheless, the team can be proud of their achievements, as they became the first ever Indian team to enter the finals of the 2018 Asian Junior & Cadet Championships.
