At the ongoing Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta Memorial All India Senior Ranking badminton tournament in Uttar Pradesh, the crowd enjoyed some stellar performances from teenagers. Teen shuttlers Kartik Jindal and Malvika Bansod entertained everyone with their extraordinary performances.
Haryana’s 19 year old Kartik Jindal made it to the men’s singles final defeating Delhi’s Akash Yadav in a 21-9, 21-6 victory. 17 year old Malvika Bansod, a rising star from Nagpur, defeated Air India’s 18-year-old Bhavya Rishi in stealing performance of 21-18, 21-17.
The women’s singles final saw a lot of ambition from teenagers as no one was ready to loose. Malvika’s fellow city mate Vaishnavi Bhale, 22 had to recall her whole experience against 17-year-old Aakarshi.
Vaishnavi fought her way to women’s singles final by facing hhattisgarh teen Aakarshi Kashyap 21-14, 10-21, 21-16. Askarshi has her own class as she regaled everyone earlier in the tournament when she shook third seed Rasika Raje 11-21, 21-16, 21-16 in the quarterfinal.
In Vaishnavi’s run to the final she also faced a challenge from 15th seed Kanika Kanwal of Railways before winning13-21, 21-16, 21-13.
Kartik Jindal also showed some content in his performance when he defeated 11th seed Vijetha NVS from Telangana 21-23, 21-16, 21-15 to enter the last four stage.
Top seed Pratul Joshi from Madhya Pradesh defeated Delhi’s Swamaraj Bora 24-22, 21-19 while West Bengal’s 19-year-old Arintap Dasgupta downed Railways’ Neeraj Vashisth 21-12, 21-10 in other men’s singles quarterfinal clashes of the day.
The finals of the tournament will be held on Saturday. A prize money of Rs 5 lakh will also be given to the winners.
