Sushil Kumar-headed School Games Federation of India suspended by Sports Ministry

Sports Ministry of India revoked the recognition of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) on 26 February, which is headed by two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar.

Terrible management of SGFI led the Sports Ministry to take this decision according to a report by Times of India.

The SGFI had sent its contingent for the participation in the 10th Pacific School Games held held in Australia in 2017. The media had reported that the sent by SGFI was left stranded and had to fend for themselves in Adelaide. There was also negligent behaviour towards promising footballer Nitisha Negi which led to his death. The SGFI had taken a particpation fees of Rs 2.5 lakh from each athlete participating at the event. School Girl's Hockey team The premier organisation has been in news since the death of at the unsanctioned Pacific School Games in Adelaide in December 2017.

"The government is of the view that the SGFI has violated the provisions of the sports code, 2011 for its failure to provide accurate information to the department as and when called for," the ministry's suspension letter stated.
