The Asian Junior Squash Championship in Macau witnessed a rare instance on Saturday, as two Indians made their way to the final clash in the boy's U-19 category of the event. Yash Fadte and Veer Chotrani toppled their respective opponents to stay in the gold-medal contention. Following his impressive victory over India's Tushar Sahni, Yash Fadte put up a good display of might to defeat Pakistan's Hamza Sharif by 6-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7 in the semi-finals. Down 1-0 at one point, the Goa showcased brilliant comeback to win the second set. In a close fight, Sharif pocketed the third set but Fadte hit out hard to win the next two sets and eventually the match.
Yash Fadte Image : Macau Squash On the other hand, Maharashtra's Veer Chotani took down the 3/4 seed Pakistan's Haris Qasim by 11-4 11-7 7-11 11-9. Chotani gave away only the third set to Qasim but maintained his winning streak. In the quarter-final, Chotani defeated top seed Siow Yee Xian of Singapore in five games. Veer Chotrani Image : Macau Squash With both Fadte and Chotani in final, the gold and silver medals are now confirmed for India. This is the first-time ever two Indians will face-off in the final of Under-19 boys event at the Asian Junior Squash Championship. In the semi-final of the Under-17 boys category, India's Neel Joshi beat Malaysia's Ameeshenraj Chandaran by 11-3, 11-9, 17-19, 9-11, 11-6. Joshi will take on second seeded Malaysia's Nathan Kueh Tze Bing in the final.
Neel Joshi Image : Macau Squash In the Under-15 girls event, India's Yuvna Gupta beat the second seeded Hong Kong's Tse Yee Lam Toby by 9-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9 in the semi-final to set up a final clash with the top-seeded Aira Binti Azman of Malaysia. Yuvna Gupta Image : Macau Squash Overall, seven Indians featured in the last four in various age categories, making seven medals assured for the country. Now four Indian's will be battling for the gold medal.
