A road accident in Sangli district of Maharashtra claimed the lives of five wrestlers and a driver in the early hours of Saturday. The incident took place around 1 am when the SUV carrying the wrestlers lost control and hit straight into an oncoming tractor which was loaded with sugarcane. It was learned from reports that they were returning from a wrestling contest in Satara. Apart from this, five others which also included wrestlers were injured in the accident and were admitted to the hospital. The wrestlers involved in the incident were part an institute named Kranti Kushti Sankul. The Secretary of the organisation, Sharad Lal, mourned the loss of the aspiring wrestlers. He said, 'It is very sad and shocking for us.' A few days ago, renowned Sukhchain Singh Cheema lost his life in a road accident on the Patiala highway. Sukhchain was an Arjuna Awardee and also the son of famous wrestler Kesar Singh Cheema. The grappler won a bronze medal in the 1974 Tehran Asian Games. This accident was somewhat similar to today's incident; the car collided straight on with another one. "The car of Sukhchain (68) collided with another car at around 7 pm on Wednesday at Patiala Sangrur by-pass. He was rushed to a hospital but could not be saved,' said Palwinder Singh, son of Sukhchain Singh Cheema.
