"Stop waiting for things to happen. Go out and make it happen."- Ussain Bolt Such is the story of a 19-year-old, Rameshwar Gurjar, hailing from Shivpuri district in Bhopal, who broke the internet after a video of him sprinting barefoot in a 100m dash under 11 seconds went viral. Yes, you heard it right. Barefoot! For some perspective, the current men's world record in the 100-metre race is 9.58 seconds, set by the fastest man on earth-Jamaica's Usain Bolt in 2009. The national record is 10.26 seconds, set by Amia Kumar Malik in 2016, as per the Athletics Federation of India website. Rameshwar has studied up to Class 10 and could not go to college because of the family's weak financial condition. Hailing from a farmer's family, Gurjar could only count his lucky stars when the video got shared by former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday night who urged the country's sports minister Kiren Rijiju to lend a helping hand. Last night Kiren Rijiju reacted to the video, saying that he would arrange for the 19-year-old to be admitted to an athletics academy in the country. https://twitter.com/KirenRijiju/status/1162418671295201280 There may not have been anything official about the lap ran by Gurjar but those who have seen Gurjar running have been convinced of his potential, according to sources. India has got a colossal pool of talent in athletics, and if they could be reached out to, the Indian sporting landscape would certainly witness a steep curve of success.
