Guwahati: I League, ISL clubs along with foreign teams to participate in the 11th Bodousa Cup Football which starts from September 22 in Assam. The organisers, Bodousa Sports Club, said that 32 teams will participate in the tournament which will be played across the state in eight venues. Among others, Jamshedpur FC of ISL and Gokulam Kerala FC which plays in the I-League have confirmed their participation in the tournament. Apart from that, two more teams from the ISL and I League will play. Arunjyoti Moran, President of Bodousa Sports Club, said that Saif Sporting Club from Bangladesh and Shyachal Youth Club from Nepal have confirmed their participation while two others from the neighbouring countries are likely to take part in the 14-day tournament.
“These teams will play in the pre-quarterfinals. We are expecting good competition, and we hope that people will get to watch good football. The teams will be divided into eight groups,” Moran said on Sunday.
The venues are Tinsukia, Duliajan, Digboi, Diphu, Margherita and Nalbari. Two venues are yet to be decided. Saif Sporting Club Bangladesh Bodousa Cup Winner 2018 The winners will get Rs 2 lakh, and runners up will get Rs 1 lakh while the third team will be given Rs 50,000 and the fourth team will get Rs 25,000. The player of the tournament, the player of the final, the highest scorer and the best goalkeeper will be awarded Rs 5,000 each. Last year, Saif Sporting club won the Cup defeating Jamshedpur FC. Arunjyoti Moran said that they started the tournament way back in 2009 and then it was organized by All Assam Moran Students’ Union. Later in 2011, they formed a club Bodousa Sports Club and started to conduct the tournament under its banner ever since. “Football has a great history here in Assam. We had some of the oldest and most popular tournaments like Bordoloi trophy where clubs from across the country and major Asian teams have participated. But it’s not that big anymore. We want to create a healthy atmosphere for the game and want more people to come forward and be part of the beautiful game. So, we conduct our matches in rural and different places,” said Moran. –
