The most awaited event in eSports is already here. The International (TI) is a formal Dota 2 event that has been happening for the past eight years, a ritual that not a single Dota 2 player would want to miss. The ninth edition is being hosted for the first time on Chinese soil this year. The main event will take place at Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai from August 20 to August 25. What makes this event most significant in the history of eSports is the amount of money allocated to the prize pool. The current total is $33,056,732, with the winner getting $15,040,813 and the last place getting $82,642. The competition
starts with 18 teams fighting against each other to qualify for the final event where a series of games decide the ultimate winner. https://twitter.com/dota2ti/status/1163010347260960769 With every passing year, the International is deepening its roots in the eSports culture. The recognition the championship gets is as massive as any other sports. China has always been known for supporting eSports as a part of the children's curriculum. However, this year Indian Television has finally recognised the worth of this competition. Sony Liv is an online television channel that is broadcasting the sport live as it happens. This is a massive step towards the future of eSports in South Asia, especially India. The matches are being cast in Hindi and Tamil, making way for regional Dota 2 enthusiasts. Indian gamers have accepted the decision with an open mind and feel thankful for the recognition the sport is getting.
