After an enthralling win over Thailand at the AFC Asian Cup, India succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against UAE at Zayed Sports stadium on 10th January 2019. India failed to put a goal despite getting quite a few chances throughout the game.

Right from the start of the game, UAE had a plan of playing more possession-oriented game whereas India tried to create opportunities with the help of counterattack. But UAE was more skilful and tactically correct at their home to clinch the victory which puts them at the top of the table.

Overall performance review

Holistically, it is evident that the goalscoring opportunities were created more by India in both the halves. But on target and probing, shots were created by UAE which helped them scoring two goals in the match.

Another big problem that Indian team sustained throughout the match is lack of passes and possession of the ball in the game. In both the halves, India relied on long passes and which failed on most of the occasions. UAE had a double number of passes amongst their players which was always keeping them ahead in the entire game.

The midfield failed to coordinate throughout the game for India which created pressure on the defense and the entire team tactically became reliant on long ball passing.

Attack and Defense analysis

On all the parameters basis, UAE and India look close regarding performance. But in defensive part, UAE played with more discipline as they have been blocked shots, won more tackles. India on the other hand, conceded the 1st goal at the 42nd minute because of miscommunication within the defence.

Corner opportunities were more vulnerable by UAE compared to India. Ball clearance was done effectively very well by both the teams.

Overall, India could not replicate the same performance as how they played against Thailand. More effective coordination in midfield, more ball passing amongst the team player and better communication will help India to win the next must-win match against Bahrain.
