Sydney Thunders on Thursday sealed a crushing victory, defeating Hobart Hurricanes by 39 runs and find themselves atop of the table in the ongoing Big Bash League in Australia. Sydney Thunders, who are known for their explosive batting relied heavily upon their bowlers to seal this victory. They were top-notch as a unit and were well backed in the field as well. Among their superb bowling spells, one particular bowler, Tanveer Sangha, who picked up two wickets became the leading wicket-taker of the tournament today after he dismissed Hobart batsmen Peter Handscomb and Colin Ingram, which took his total wicket tally to 15.

Tanveer has been turning heads during his maiden season of Big Bash cricket. The 19-year-old phenom has been boasting one of the tournament’s best bowling averages. Sangha is yet to make his first-class debut, but could potentially be selected for the New South Wales Blues when Nathan Lyon departs for international commitments. Thunder paceman Chris Tremain praised Sangha for his temperament, a critical characteristic of any leg bowler.

Sangha produced a season-best performance against the Melbourne Renegades on Boxing Day, claiming 4/17 in a classy four-over spell.

The teenager removed Australian one-day captain Aaron Finch for 20 and Afghanistan international Mohammad Nabi for one to help dismiss the Renegades for 80.

Sangha represented Australia at the U19 Cricket World Cup earlier this year, where he was comfortably the team’s highest wicket-taker with 15 scalps at 11.46 and an economy rate of 3.58.

Tanveer’s father, Joga Sangha, hails from Rahimpur, a village 20km from Jalandhar. Joga moved to Australia in 1997 for education before eventually settling down in the southwestern suburbs of Sydney. Joga Singh works as a Taxi driver in Sydney, while Tanveer's mother works as an accountant in Sydney. It is quite strange to know both Tanveer Sangha and his father never had a liking towards cricket during their childhood days. After settling in Australia, Tanveer would play a lot of volleyball. He would also travel to India along with his family during his summer vacations. His visits to India came to a halt when he was 14 as he started to master leg-spin.
