Indian paddlers went off to a flying start in the opening day of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games as both the Men's and the Women's teams won their respective fixtures against Trinidad and Tobago and Sri-Lanka respectively with ease and are now looking forward to their next match which will follow shortly after. Sutirtha Mukherjee also did the same, having the better of Ishara Badu scores of 11-5, 11-8, 11-4 in the second singles. In the doubles, the duo of Suthirtha and Pooja Sahasrabudhe had no hiccups to defeat Badu and Hasani Kapugeekiyana to ensure the victory.

The Men also began with a bang, with Anthony Amalraj producing a commendable performance over Louis Dexter with scores of 11-5, 3-11, 11-2, 14-12 to give a 1-0 lead to India in the encounter. Sathiyan Gnanaseakaran made it 2-0 after he outclassed Aaron Wilson with scores of 11-5, 11-5, 11-4. They defeated the pair from Caribbean islands with scores of 11-9, 11-4, 11-4 to put the last nail in the coffin! The Indian Women will take on Wales later on in Day 1 and a win over there will definitely earn them a berth in the round of 16. On the other hand, the Men will face off against Wales in the afternoon of the opening day. India began the opening day on a high at the Commonwealth Games, with Gururaja winning the first medal when he secured the Silver in the Men's 56kg weightlifting category. With still a lot of action left in the day, hopefully, we will see a few more medals very shortly!
