Many couples around the country choose to get married in December due to religious or auspicious reasons, or simply convenience. Wedding season also sets the tone for many people to sweat and eat right to get in shape for the picture perfect occasion. However, these occasions lead to increasing pressure for everyone to look good, and some may take this to extremes such as crash dieting or starving.

The internet may be rife with products and services selling you quick fixes to weight loss and looking like fitness models without much effort, however, this could not be further from the truth. Here are 3 things you should do and must avoid to look good this wedding season.

Do: Exercise in moderation

Looking good does not have to come at the price of feeling terrible. Exercise does not have to mean a gym membership as today you can choose from yoga, Pilates, Zumba to CrossFit, rock climbing and powerlifting. Pick your poison and make sure you stick to it consistently, with a realistic goal in mind.

Don’t: Overtrain

"No Pain, No Gain" is a motivating quote to push your mental barriers during a training session. However, this may leave a bad impression on those who are unfamiliar with overtraining. Overtraining is excessive training which does not allow for rest or recovery. It diminishes your hard earned progress and might also result in impairment or serious injury. Thus it is best to keep consistent with workouts and have realistic goals.

Do: Eat healthy and in proportion to your goal

Eating a balanced, healthy diet that has all the necessary micronutrients and macronutrients is what will get you closer to your weight loss goal. Though it may seem contradictory, eating healthy fat can help you lose fat. Foods rich in protein and fibre are satiating, so you feel full for longer. Carbohydrates are not the enemy as they are the body's source of energy, so embrace them. Eating mindfully and exercising consistently will get you in shape for better pictures.

Don’t: Follow a fad diet

Crash diets and many other fad diets on social media may claim that they can help you lose or gain a certain amount of weight within a very small time frame. The body goes through many complicated processes to adapt to physical and mental changes. Just like exercise, consistency in nutrition always pays off. So avoid crash diets and other diets that promise fast results and consult a professional. They can design a personalized plan that will help you reach your goal in a safer way.

Do: Take care of overall health

Beauty sleep is not just an idiom. Sleep can help your body repair and relieve all the physical, mental and emotional stress that you endure throughout the day. A healthy lifestyle, which does not involve negative habits such as smoking or drinking, will help you get fit faster and look great for the occasion.

Don’t: Obsess over looks

It is a happy occasion! Join the person you care about share their bond someone they wish to spend their life with. Looks matter least during such a joyous occasion, as it is important to celebrate the moment with close ones.

These 3 tips are sure to help you achieve your body goals in time for a wedding. However, avoid being too picky over every decision. A wedding is a happy occasion of someone you care about, and not a photo opportunity.
