Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu is all geared to play renowned Indian player Mithali Raj in her biopic, which is slated to be released in 2021. Named 'Shabaash Mithu', the film will narrate the life, struggle and the journey of Raj, who has been credited with changing the face of women's cricket in India.

Pannu released the first poster earlier today on social media to get fans excited about her upcoming movie. Taking to Twitter, the actress shared the first look with the caption, "I have always been asked who’s your favourite male cricketer but you should ask them who their favourite female cricketer is.” The statement that made every cricket lover pause and introspect that do they love the game or the gender playing it. @M_Raj03 you are a ‘Game Changer’.”

The Bollywood star was referring to Raj's comment ahead of the ICC World Cup in 2017, when the skipper was asked by a journalist about her favourite male cricketer. In response she had quipped, "Do you ask the same question to a male cricketer?"

Incidentally, it was that very tournament which helped in bringing about a radical change in women's country in India. The Eves in Blue pitched in with a stellar showing in the event that was held in England, reaching the finals, only to lose by an agonizing nine runs to the hosts. After Harmanpreet Kaur played a sensational knock of an unbeaten 171 in the semis against Australia, the Indians advanced to the summit clash at the iconic Lord's, before their dreams ended in heartbreak.

However, the players had done their bit in pushing this facet of cricket to the forefront, with both fans and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) realizing the potential of the side. Raj, who had made her debut way back in 1999, was acknowledged as one of the athletes who played her part in changing the face of women's cricket in India, with her longevity, consistency and determination even when her feats found little coverage being applauded.

It thus is heartening to see Bollywood appreciate the women cricketers as well. In the past, the industry has churned out movies about the male cricketers, and Raj's biopic will only inspire young girls to follow their dreams despite the challenges thrown at them by society.
