After a resilient performance vs Thailand yesterday, team India succumbed to a stronger and more formidable Kazakhstan side at home in their second Fed Cup tie in Asia/Oceania Group 1. The Indian team lost all three rubbers and they will play off for the 3rd and 4th place vs Korea tomorrow. This loss coupled with their win vs Thailand yesterday sees them remain in Group 1 without danger of elimination. The day started with Karman Kaur Thandi losing out to World No 96 Zarina Diyas in straight sets. Serves remained a key issue for the youngster from India as she struggled to convert first serves. The match ended with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-2 Next, it was Ankita Raina's turn to revive some of the heroics she had shown against current World No 43 Yulia Putintseva in 2018. The top ranked Indian had shown great mettle in February 2018 to beat Putintseva in the Fed Cup World Group play-off after a two hour 25 minute match. Raina also proved to be crucial vs Thailand yesterday as she recorded two wins to seal the deal. However, this was home conditions for Kazakhstan and she failed to make a dent in the match despite putting up a strong fight in the second set. The tie ended with a scoreline of 6-1, 7-6. The Doubles match saw two young Indians fight it out and, in the end, they were made short work of. Prarthana Thombare and Riya Bhatia teamed up to face Anna Danilina and Galina Voskoboeva. A straight set 6-1, 6-1 scoreline shows how utterly dominating the Kazakhs were in the final rubber. They ended up winning the tie easily with a 3-0 scoreline to show at the end of it. As mentioned before, India will be taking on South Korea to play off for the 3rd and 4th place tomorrow.
