Cyclist Kabir Rachure Completes Race Across America
Kabir Rachure, a 29-year-old cyclist from Navi Mumbai became the third Indian to complete Race Across America (RAAM) in the solo category. He cycled roughly across a stretch of 4,800 kilometres from Oceanside in California to Annapolis in Maryland in 11 days, 22 hours, 43 minutes, as per results available on the leader board section of the event’s website. In 2017, Lt Col Srinivas Gokulnath became the first Indian solo cyclist to complete RAAM in 11 days, 18 hours, 45 minutes. He was followed by Dr Amit Samarth, who became the second Indian to complete RAAM. 
Apart from the solo rides, the Mahajan brothers – Dr Hitendra Mahajan and Dr Mahendra, were the first Indians to finish RAAM in 2015. Rachure, who is a lawyer by profession, took cycling a couple of years back. In September 2018, he won the ‘Great Himalayan Ultra’, a race which involves cycling above 3,000 metres altitude from Leh to Drass, and back. He also took part in brevets, which are non-competitive riding events that involve cycling long distances within a set time limit. The first such event Rachure signed up for, meant cycling over 200 km, from Mumbai to Charoti, and back. He kept graduating to longer distances until he finally pulled off a 600 km ride in Nashik. 
Kabir Rachure during RAAM In 2017, Rachure succesfully finished the Deccan Cliffhanger, an annual 643 km race from Pune to Goa, which is a RAAM qualifier. He later cycled even longer stretches to understand how his body would react to multiple riding days. He cycled on The ‘Ultra Spice Race,’ covering a distance of 1,750 km (from Goa to Ooty, and back), and he climbed a total height of 21,183 metres through the race.
