India offer to host World Event after coronavirus scare in Busan
The event was originally slated to take place from 22 March 22 to 29 March, but following the outbreak it remains to be seen if the location remains unchanged. However, the world body, has set 21 June to 28 June as tentative dates for the event.
The Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has offered to host the World Team Championship after the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) decided to postpone the event, following the reports of coronavirus outbreak in Busan.
The event was originally slated to take place from 22 March 22 to 29 March, but following the outbreak it remains to be seen if the location remains unchanged. However, the world body, has set 21 June to 28 June as tentative dates for the event.
According to a report in The New Indian Express, the ITTF calendar published at the start of the year, that particular week would have seen the Australian Open and Korean Open take place.
"The ITTF is working with the local organising committee to come up with a solution," the report added.
“The ITTF places on record its thanks to the local organising committee in Busan and the KTTA... By continuing to work hard and in close cooperation with all stakeholders in Busan, the ITTF remains confident about putting on a great World Championships in June,” it said in a statement quoted by TNIE.
“Our president has written to the ITTF and we are expecting a response shortly. If we get the green light, we will approach the government to chalk out plans,” TTFI secretary MP Singh was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
It, however, remains to be seen if India are given the rights to host the tournament by the world body.
