In a flagship initiative, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) earlier today confirmed the inclusion of Women's T20 Cricket in the roster of sports for the upcoming 2022 edition. Seventy-one Games associations approved the move to include the sport in the quadrennial event alongside beach volleyball and Para-table tennis. This latest development also marks the first time in history that a major multi-sport event will feature more women’s than men’s medal events. The Birmingham 2022 CWG is likely to surpass the previous Commonwealth Games record for women’s medal events in Gold Coast 2018 by two. The city's Edgbaston stadium will be the ground zero for all the cricketing action as eight teams will battle it out for the top honours. This development also serves as a testament to strengthen and empower female athletes. There are currently seven mixed events, with the confirmed event programme to be announced next year. The Indian women's cricket team

The inclusion of Cricket in the Games can also be dubbed as a stepping stone towards a further leap with the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles next on the radar.
