Commonwealth Games 2018: India reach Badminton semis

India's badminton squad is keeping up with consistency when it comes to providing the fans with a stellar performance. India's shuttling superstar Srikanth Kadambi sealed India's place in the semifinals with his win against Mauritius, which made the tie 3-0 in India's favour. With the performances India is bringing up, the Carrara Sports Arena seems to find the Indian badminton stars more at home than hosts Australia, who bowed out earlier this morning. The team is yet to lose a tie in the 21st Commonwealth Games 2018. Earlier, the two doubles matches had already given India a 2-0 lead. In men's doubles the Satwik/Chirag pair and in women's doubles, Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy had comfortable victories. In the first match of the day, the young duo of Satwik RankiReddy and Chirag Shetty had almost no trouble as they dismantled the Mauritian pair of Aatish Lubah and Christopher Jean Paul 21-12 21-3. In the second match as well, Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Ready sailed away with their match with ease. They sent their Mauritian opponents, Aurelie Marie Elisa and Nicki Chan-Lam packing with a decisive 21-8 21-7 victory. Satwik, then, in just under the half an hour mark, sent Georges Julien Paul of Mauritius packing with a 21-12 21-14. Owing to the 3-0 lead that the two doubles matches and Satwik's singles match had given to India, Hyderabad's Saina Nehwal did not have to play her singles match, since India had already qualified into the semis. In the next round, India will be facing fellow Asians, Singapore. The shuttlers from Singapore earlier defeated host nations Australia 3-0 as well. It is yet to be seen what goes down in the other quarterfinal matches. In the other quarters, the badminton teams fighting for the semi-final berths are England who will take on Canada and Malaysia who will face Scotland later in the day, today.
