Indian Boxers Amit Phangal and Naman Tanwar won their bouts in the ongoing Gold Coast Commonwealth Games to seal a berth in the last eight of their respective categories. However, day 3 promises exciting action in the name of Sarita Devi and Manoj Kumar In the 91 kg category, Naman blanked his opponent Haruna Mhando of Tanzania to win by a unanimous verdict in the afternoon session. 19-year old Naman is making his debut in the Commonwealth Games following his win against Sumit Sangwan in the trails to make the cut in the squad. Later on in the day, Amit defeated Ghana's Tetteh Sulemanu in yet another lopsided encounter to set up a quarterfinal clash. Amit Phangal has been in incredible form recently, with flawless performances in the India Open and the Strandja Memorial tournament. Amit Phangal and Naman Tanwar both have their quarterfinals on Tuesday, April 10. Early on Day 6 of the Commonwealth Games, Amit will fight it our against Scotland's Aqeel Ahmed in the Men's 49 kg category while Naman Tanwar will be up against Frank Masoe of Samoa in the 91 g category. Weightlifting has fetched each of the four medals won by India at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games but Boxing is another sport in which the Asian outfits are pretty strong. If the Indian pugilists perform as per their potential, it is likely that India will win a few medals in Boxing! Earlier in the Day, in Weightlifting, Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu won the Gold medal in the Women's 53 kg category and Deepak Lather won the Silver medal in the Men's 69 kg category. India is currently at the fifth position of the medals tally with 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze to its name. Today's boxing has in interesting day lined up as per the schedule as veteran Saita Devi plays her first bout today. It will be interesting to look at prospects later in the day.
