The latest report by Capgemini Research Institute has found out that Indian sports fans are more engaged with e-sports than with the other outdoor forms of sports. The report which is titled ‘Emerging technologies in sports’ is based on a survey conducted across 10,000 sports fans around the world. About 73% of Indians have watched e-sports, and 57% have played one, a stat which is well ahead of fans in the US and UK.

“The use of emerging technologies in creating a unique fan experience is an exciting and rapidly growing area. Sports organisations across the world have a huge opportunity to tap into evolving expectations of fans and athletes to build a more connected, customised, and personalised engagement experience,” Darshan Shankavaram, global digital customer experience practice leader at Capgemini was quoted as saying by Quartz India.

The report also shows that fans from Asia are also more

likely to pay more if their experience at the stadium is enhanced by technology.

According to the report, 71% of Asians said they would not mind paying more. As

for the North Americans and Europeans, the percentage was much lesser.

Video analysis forms an integral part in professional cricket. The performance of the players is analysed from those videos. “A lot of sports are using technology to analyse the athlete’s performance. This is only the beginning and we will see a lot more happening on this,” Shankavaram was quoted as saying by Economic Times.

The report also adds how fans make use of technology at the

games. While some browse the internet for live scores, others share updates on

social media or order food at their seat.
