History is all set to repeat itself in Basel this year as fans across the world will look to witness one of badminton's iconic women's singles rivalry, between Nozomi Okuhara and P V Sindhu. This is her third consecutive appearance in the final of World Championship and with a clinical win over World No. 3 Chen Yu Fei, Sindhu has now inched a lot closer to winning gold this year. Sindhu dished out a gritty performance against an unsettling Yu Fei 21-7, 21-14 in only 40 minutes’ time. Yun Fei screamed of desperation as she committed a pool of unforced errors, only to Sindhu’s delight. After wrapping up the first game in style, a series of smash and attacking strokes by the high-flying Sindhu intervened Yu Fei’s comeback into the second set of the game. With several avoidable hits on the net, a dejected Yu Fei suffered a defeat at the hands of phenomenal Sindhu. Sindhu blasted past the Chinese shuttler in two straight sets, 21-7, 21-14.

While Sindhu was tempting as ever, it was not the best of displays from Sai Praneeth yesterday. The Japanese World No. 1 Kento Momota silenced the 27-year-old with a clinical performance. Momota maintained an unassailable lead from the very start of the game, not letting Praneeth do the talking. With a couple of hits at the net, Praneeth succumbed to the pressure and gave some crucial points to Momota to add to his roster. It was all over for Praneeth as Momota snatched the game away 21-13, 21-8.

The final game between two of the world’s greatest shuttlers promises to be exhilarating with a high dose of badminton extravaganza. It promises to be a one-of-a-kind mouth-watering clash as Sindhu will most definitely look to spearhead the challenge coming her way.
