An hour and fifteen minutes of nearly flawless tennis from our Indo-Hungarian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Timea Babos saw them stepping into the Semi-finals of the mixed doubles in Melbourne defeating the US-Colombia pair of Abigail Spears and Juan Sebastian Cabal with a 6-4 7-6(5) scoreline.Last year, Bopanna and Dabrowski were ousted in the quarter finals by Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig. The first set was a smooth sailing ride for Bopanna and Babos. Sending down 3 aces and breaking the opponents twice, Bopanna/Babos were also helped by an 87% of first serves won. In the second set, Spears and Cabal fought hard to keep it even. With almost an equal percent of first serves on both sides, a 73% of Bopanna/ Babos to a 72% of Spears and Cabal, the set headed to a tie-break. A total of 73 points as compared to Cabal and Spears 68 helped clinching the illustrious win. India's Rohan Bopanna has been showcasing some real consistency by reaching at least the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam in the mixed doubles in recent years. Bopanna, right now, is the only Indian who is keeping the hopes of the nation alive in Melbourne. We all hope he goes ahead and adds another feather in his cap by reaching the finals and eventually taking the title.
