A four-member internal Complaints Committee has been appointed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India for prevention of sexual harassment against women at workplace. The BCCI has constituted the committee in line with Sexual Harrassment against Women at Workplace Act 2013 (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal), which states that any company should have an internal Committee that deals with any atrocities towards women. Karina Kripalini, a BCCI employee will head the committee, along with GM (Cricket Operations) Saba Karim, Rupawati Rao as other members. The fourth and external member of the committee will be Veena Gowda. Each of these members will have a tenure of one year. This ensures a rotation factor which can prevent complacent attitudes and nepotism, in case there would be a chance of it. "This is a welcome move. It should have happened much earlier. We have a robust women's cricket system in place along with a lot of female employees," a senior BCCI official said. Considering the fact sports, while rapidly changing, has been long dominated by men, a formal body to receive complaints from women in a body like BCCI is a step of immense importance.
