With Badminton Association of India adding to the strength of the National coaching team, the good news for the sport is far from over as Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ) and Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy announces their association with badminton legend Morten Frost to India as a consultant coach for junior players at PPBA, Bangalore.

The former World No 1 from Denmark will be in the city later this week and will coach the junior players at PPBA for the next one year, a statement from OGQ said. Morten is a two time World Championship silver medalist (1985, 1987) and has won the prestigious All England title a total of four times (1982, 1984, 1986, 1987)

“We have been looking at getting a top foreign coach to guide the young players at PPBA. I feel that Morten’s presence will be a huge boost to many talented young players here at the academy. Besides coaching the players, Morten will also help implement a robust coaches development plan,” Prakash Padukone was quoted as saying in the statement.

“Morten has tremendous experience as a player, coach and technical director. He has seen badminton over the years when we were playing and he is also very much in touch with the latest developments in world badminton. His experience, insight and technical knowhow will be invaluable for us,” he added. The PPBA was founded almost 25 years ago and is still producing champions on a regular basis, the latest name being Lakshya Sen.

Morten Frost expressed excitement at the prospect of this association. “I am very excited to come to the PPBA, a very successful academy started by my friend Prakash. India is doing so well in Badminton in the last decade with players like Saina, Sindhu and Srikanth excelling. I am delighted to get an opportunity to contribute to the next generation of young badminton talent in India,” he was quoted as saying.

The statement also went on to add that Frost will be attending the ongoing Senior Nationals in Guwahati to see the domestic talent in action and get a fair idea of the prospects before joining.
