Amidst the ongoing Senior National Badminton Championships, the one player who will not be joining his elite contemporaries is shuttler HS Prannoy. The World No 19 is missing the biggest National event in the sport because he will be flying to the United States of America for medical treatment, as reported by Sportstar. “It is disappointing certainly to be away from the circuit but again nothing is in my hands except hoping for the best,” Prannoy was quoted as saying. “There have been issues in my stomach. But, I started training for one week for the first time after the PBL.” He further goes on to say that he had first experienced the discomfort during the World Championships last year but neither he nor his doctors had taken the complaint very seriously back then. “Naturally because of this problem, I have a restricted diet, mostly on liquids. Not able to eat much as whatever I consume, it is coming out. It is very frustrating and tough phase indeed," he further added. “I have been running around for the medical tests for quite some time now. It is pretty complicated. I was trying much medication but nothing seems to be working out. So, I decided to go to the USA," he added. Top players are given a direct qualification to the pre-quarterfinal stages at the Senior Nationals currently ongoing in Guwahati. Most of the country's elite are yet to reach the venue. Before the individual championships began, the Inter-State Inter-Zonal half of the Championships saw Airports Authority of India beat the team from Railways to clinch the title. Young shuttler Lakshya Sen starred throughout the tournament for AAI and was their star player.
