The eighteenth Asian Games continued on the eighth day, with India adding to its medal tally. A week into the pan-Asian event, India has been doing decent enough. The medals have been slow to come and there have been some disappointments. But still, the Games have provided us plenty to cheer about. Heading into its second week, the Indian contingent gave us even more memories to cherish and cheer. Athletics being the big contributor to those. The eighteenth Asian Games had seen one of India's best Athletics contingents ever to participate in a multi-sport event. And the athletes provided testament to the fact by winning several medals. Tajinderpal Singh Toor started the flurry of medals, by winning the Gold medal (and breaking the Games Record) in Men's Shot Put. Hima Das and Muhammed Anas Yahiya followed, by winning Silver in Women's and Men's 400m Final. India was given another medal chance in Men's 10000m. Lakshmanan Govindan was the only Indian in this one. Govindan continued a great day for Indian Athletics, or it seemed at first, by winning the Bronze medal in the Men's 10000m Final. The Indian runner completed the race in 29 minutes and 44 seconds (29:44.91), to finish third in the event. However, the Indian was to suffer from a terrible heartbreak, as he was disqualified and stripped of the Bronze medal. The reason for Govindan's disqualification was the fact, that his foot went outside of the eight-lane track on one occasion. As per the rules, the athletes need to be within the boundaries at all times. It is a terrible news for the Indian contingent, as well as, the fans. The situation involving Govindan is bound to dampen the mood in the Indian camp, who had been previously celebrating India's stunning performance in athletics.
