Day Eight turned out to be a great day for India, courtesy of Athletics. The stars from track and field shone brightly, adding more medals to India's tally. India stood at Thirty-One medals midway through the multi-sport event. However, that changed on Day Eight, as Hima Das and Muhammed Anas. Das and Anas took to the track for Women's and Men's 400m, respectively. Both the sprinters did extremely well and won a Silver medal each. The athletics action did not stop there. Dutee Chand returned to the track after years of absence, to compete in the Women's 100m. India's Sprint Queen stormed through the qualification heats, before edging a far more closely contested Semifinal. Dutee's performances in the earlier rounds saw her take her place on the track for the Final of Women's 100m. A photo finish at the end of it ensured a Silver for her despite a not-so-good showing at the earlier Semi final stage. Dutee clocked a timing of 11.32 seconds to finish second in what was an absolute photo-finish. It came as an immense relief for the sprinter who had been unable to make a mark at the Commonwealth Games. It also came at the back of a severe debate on Hyperandrogenism that she had been caught up in with the Court of Arbitration for Sport. She eventually won the case but the issue has far from died down. This is India's third Athletics silver for the day, the other two coming from Muhammed Anas and Hima Das who put up second place finishes in the Men's and Women's 100mts race respectively. Bahrain's Odiong Edidiong finished ahead of Dutee in the race and clinched the Gold with only a 0.02 second lead. The three silvers in Athletics now take our tally to 10 Silver medals overall. With 7 Golds and 19 Bronze medals, India is placed 9th with a total of 36 medals.
