The Archery Association of India seems to run into controversy again. This time they have been alleged of conducting matches continuously for 12 hours on Monday. Archers participating at the selection trials in Pune claimed that on the final day of the trials at the Army Sports Institute campus, they had to shoot from 8 AM to 8 PM.

The trials were conducted to pick eight archers from men and women section, who will compete in another trial later this month with 12 others in their respective categories. Top 12 from the 20 archers will then make it to the Indian team, who will then participate in various trials ahead of the Olympic qualifiers. Top-three makes it to the international squad.

The Times of India reported that 16 archers participated in the trial who had to play 15 matches each in a day and got only a 30-minute break during lunch. By the time the last match got over, people could not see targets under the lights. An official also told the media house that poor management was at play while conducting the trials.

However, when asked about the hectic schedule and complaints by the archers, AFI’s assistant secretary Gunjan Abrol said the schedule was fixed only after consulting with the archers.
