India will be participating in the 2020 Summer Paralympics which is to be held in Tokyo, Japan. The tournament will be from 25th August to 6th September 2020.

Every edition of the Summer Olympics since 1984 has seen Indian athletes participate. They made their official debut at the 1968 Summer Paralympics.

Archery has seen major inroads in recent times. Indian archers have received their quota places for the following events from the 2019 World Archery Para Championships 2019.

Harvinder Singh and Vivek Chikara became the first male archers from the country to qualify for the games. They achieved this feat by finishing in the Top 16 at the world championships. Rakesh Kumar and Shyam Sunder Swami have also qualified through the World Championship. They also became the country’s first compound archers to qualify for the Paralympics Games.

Each athlete from each NPC must at least aim to score targets in each medalling event in the qualifying tournaments.

Along the way, Manish Narwal and Deepender Singh became the first Indian Para Pistol shooter to qualify for next year’s Paralympics games after winning gold and silver medal at the 2018 World Shooting Para Sports World Cup, in Chateauroux, France. Singhraj also joined them by securing his position in the mixed pistol event. Avani Lekhera also became the first female shooter to secure Paralympics berth for India. Swaroop Mahavir Unhalkar secured another quota in the rifle from 2019 World Shooting Para Sport Championships, in Sydney, Australia.
