Dipa Karmakar seems to be moving on from the heartbreaking miss at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games as she has already set her eyes on the upcoming Asian Games in Jakarta. The gymnast from Tripura will will head to Moscow for a month-long training stint with her sights set on a podium finish in August. Speaking to PTI, her coach Bisweshwar Nandi gave an update on his protege's rehab and the vaults she would be looking to attempt once she has caught up on her training. Being out for so long, the fourth place finisher at the Rio Olympics definitely needs some stability before she can compete at that level again. 'We have drawn up a chart for her keeping Asian Games in mind. We are looking forward to a four-week stint in Moscow in May,' Nandi was quoted as saying. 'The rehab is over and she's training well. She's doing the basic vaults. First trying to get stable then she will attempt the risky Produnova,' he continued. The 24-year old Karmakar also seems to be excited as she eyes her maiden medal at the Asian Games. At this point, it is worth remembering that Dipa has not competed since the Rio Olympics. The challenges for her will undoubtedly be greater now as she faces stiff competition.

Being a gymnast is not easy. You live in constant fear. Nandi, however, provided some clarity on what the thought process behind Dipa's schedule has been. 'The Asian Games will be tougher than the upcoming Commonwealth Games - China and South Korea are really strong in gymnastics. Keeping all this in mind, we have drawn up her schedule. She's under the Target Olympic Podium (TOP) scheme and we will train in Russia," he said. According to the same PTI report, Nandi says that Dipa has been practicing on a new vault while also stating that she will continue with her signature Produnova alongside some new styles to her usual repertoire.
